About the Art

From the tobacco fields and country lanes of Mitchellville to the courthouse square of Upper Marlboro, where small-town Americana still seems to linger in the afternoon light; from the whistle of a departing train in Bowie to the salt air, boardwalk lights, and cotton-candy evenings of Ocean City, the journey Steve and Mo have co-created follows the landscapes, moments, and memories of another America. Then come the grand amusements of Marshall Hall and Glen Echo, where summer laughter once rose above the rides; the breezy shores of the Chesapeake Bay, where ferries crossed blue water toward distant vacationland; and Annapolis, where colonial brick, church steeples, sailing masts, and the dome of Maryland’s State House create a capital unlike any other. Beyond Maryland, the journey turns unexpectedly toward the sun-washed boulevards, Gaudí architecture, Mediterranean light, and harbor breezes of Barcelona, then south and west to New Orleans, the City that Care Forgot, where iron balconies, jazz, Mardi Gras, and Creole traditions refuse to surrender their ghosts. And finally, there is the Curator’s Closet—a cabinet of curiosities filled with things that belong nowhere and everywhere: objects, memories, characters, and fragments rescued from the great attic of time.
