Frederick Douglass High School (FDHS) (02-16)

Historical narrative
Depicted here is the old FDHS, which stood behind and to the side of the courthouse from its opening in 1936 until the new FDHS opened in 1960 in Croom. During segregation, the school provided education to Black students, succeeding Marlboro Colored High School (1923–1935). After 1960, the former FDHS was repurposed as what became known as the Frederick Sasscer High School (FSHS) Annex. FSHS students were shuttled between the Annex and the main building to accommodate the school's growing student population until an addition to the main building was completed in 1962. The county board of education was housed in the old FDHS building until the early 1980s, when the building was razed.
