The Victorian Courthouse (02-07)

Historical narrative

By 1881, when the county's population had grown to about 25,000, the courthouse on Main Street had already been enlarged and improved in 1820, 1840, and 1852. In 1881, the Victorian façade and other exterior features depicted in this watercolor were added, giving the courthouse its distinctive appearance. Interestingly, the historical record tells us that at least part of this courthouse was incorporated into the current courthouse.
