Mullikin Railroad Station (01-14)

Historical narrative

In its early years, the Mullikin Railroad Station served as a primary connection between rural Mitchellville and the outside world. It likely had a passenger waiting room, an agent's office, and a freight room. In the early 1900s, long before trucking became dominant, trains delivered goods to rural areas. During World War I, the government controlled, through consolidation, package delivery companies, establishing the Railway Express Agency (“REA”) office. At Mullikin Crossing, the REA office was part of the railroad station.
