Misty Morning at Cunningham Lake (10-17)

Historical narrative
At Cunningham Lake, the heart of the Western Maryland 4-H Center, a quiet summer morning begins beneath a veil of mist. Created by damming Pleasant Valley Run, the lake became a peaceful mountain retreat for generations of 4-H campers. In the early morning, its still waters reflect the surrounding forest as wisps of fog drift across the surface, creating an atmosphere of solitude and anticipation. The wooden pier rests quietly above the water, while canoes wait along the sandy shore for the day's activities to begin. Yet this peaceful scene would soon change dramatically. As the summer sun climbed higher, campers would fill the beach, crowd the pier, paddle the canoes, and splash in the refreshing mountain water. What begins as a misty, tranquil morning would become a lively day of swimming, boating, friendship, and summer adventure.
