Historical narrative

The Coaster Dips was Glen Echo Park's famous wooden roller coaster, thrilling riders from 1921 until the park's closure in 1968. Built during the golden age of amusement parks, the massive coaster stretched approximately 3,000 feet and featured seven steep dips and sharp curves. In 1922, another 1,000 feet of track was added, along with two major dips featuring an 85-foot drop. Its white wooden framework towered above the park and could be seen from afar, becoming a Glen Echo landmark. Riding the Coaster Dips was both exciting and intimidating. The climb to the top seemed endless as the train rattled up the lift hill. Then came the rush of wind, the sudden drops, and the sensation of floating from the seat on the steepest dips. The coaster's roar and speed created unforgettable memories for generations of riders.
