The Midway at Marshall Hall (05-05)

Historical narrative
On a bright summer afternoon in 1960, the midway at Marshall Hall buzzed with laughter, music, and the excitement of children enjoying a carefree day along the Potomac River. The small spinning ride was packed with boys and girls gripping the metal bars, their faces lit with wide smiles as the cars whipped around in circles. Nearby, the midway echoed with game operators calling to visitors, the ringing of game booths, and the steady hum of amusement rides. A colorful Ferris wheel slowly turned above the crowd, offering sweeping views of the river and park below, while a striped tent added to the festive atmosphere. Visitors strolled from ride to ride, stopping for popcorn, soda, and treats. For many Washington-area youngsters, a day at Marshall Hall was the highlight of summer and a memory never forgotten.
