The Majestic (04-30)

Historical narrative
The Majestic Hotel was one of the grand old wooden hotels that helped define Ocean City's Boardwalk era. Built in 1925 as the Liberty Farms Hotel and renamed the Majestic in 1930, it welcomed generations of vacationers seeking ocean breezes, beach recreation, and a traditional seaside holiday. By 1957, the hotel retained much of its old-fashioned charm, with broad porches lined with rocking chairs and guests gathering to watch life unfold along the Boardwalk. For a family arriving in the summer of 1957, staying at the Majestic felt like entering a different world. The scent of salt air drifted through open windows, ceiling fans hummed overhead, and the sounds of the surf could be heard at night. Days were spent swimming, strolling the Boardwalk, and enjoying simple pleasures. Evenings brought cool breezes, conversation on the porch, and the comforting rhythm of a classic Maryland beach vacation.
