Historical narrative

The Trimper family was foundational to the hospitality and entertainment legacy of Ocean City, Maryland. After visiting Ocean City in 1890, Daniel and Margaret Trimper sold the bar they owned in Baltimore and eventually relocated to the resort. Their early Ocean City enterprises included two prominent lodging establishments, the Eastern Shore Hotel and the Sea Bright Hotel. The family also established an amusement enterprise that grew along the Boardwalk. Following a severe storm that damaged the Sea Bright in 1900, the family rebuilt it in the style of Windsor Castle, and their hotels, theater, and amusement park became known as the Windsor Resort. Through generations of continuous family ownership, the Trimpers transformed their early enterprises into the amusement operation now known as Trimper's Rides, securing their place in history as operators of the oldest family-owned amusement park in the United States.
