Thrasher Fries (04-11)

Historical narrative
In the early 1960s, as it still is today, a trip to Ocean City was not complete without a stop at Thrasher's French Fries on the boardwalk. Founded in 1929 by J. T. Thrasher, the stand had already become a seaside institution, drawing generations of vacationers with the irresistible aroma of fresh-cut potatoes frying in peanut oil. On a warm summer afternoon, visitors in this watercolor joined the line, eagerly awaiting a steaming bucket of golden fries. There was no ketchup, only a generous shake of salt and a splash of vinegar for those who wanted it. Families carried the overflowing buckets to nearby benches or strolled the boardwalk sharing fries as they watched the ocean. The salty breeze, crashing waves, and unmistakable taste of Thrasher's created a simple tradition that became one of Ocean City's most cherished memories.
