Today's Courthouse (02-10)

Historical narrative
Prince George's County's population reached an estimated 968,000 in 2025. With this growth, the county's courts and government offices have expanded well beyond the original courthouse, forming a large complex across Main Street and extending to locations throughout the county. In 2004, a fire gutted the upper levels of the courthouse, destroying two floors and the roof but leaving the signature cupola standing. Demonstrating the resilience of the county's spirit, the courthouse was rebuilt, stronger and more beautiful than ever, as depicted in this watercolor.
