Essington Hall (01-23)

Historical narrative
Essington Hall was a plantation with a historic house on Old Mount Oak Road, built by John Mitchell (1788–1862), from whom Mitchellville acquired its name. At one time, the property encompassed much of what is now Mitchellville. Later, all or part of the property was owned by the locally prominent Peach family. In 1967, Levitt & Sons purchased the Essington Hall Plantation, originally owned by John Mitchell, to create the community of Pointer Ridge. The plantation buildings were demolished, and the land was leveled. The surviving cemetery is now maintained by the City of Bowie.
