Mullikin Crossing (01-11)

Historical narrative
Mitchellville's Mullikin Crossing was established around the intersection of the Pope's Creek Extension railroad line and Mount Oak Road (named after the Mount Oak Estate, which will be displayed later in this collection). In its heyday, the Mullikin Crossing area supported a variety of businesses and community activities. At the Crossing, there was the Mullikin Railroad Station, a hotel, a blacksmith shop, a post office, the Mullikin School, jousting tournaments, a meeting hall and polling place, and several homes. The area immediately surrounding the railroad crossing is portrayed, including the Skelton house and its attached blacksmith shop, identified in government records as the Mitchellville Blacksmith House.
