Steve Cruising the Boardwalk, 1960 (04-09)

Historical narrative
In the early morning hours on a summer day in 1960, the Ocean City boardwalk belonged to the early risers. Steve, then a thirteen-year-old boy, pedaled a rented bicycle along the wooden planks, enjoying an hour of freedom before the town came alive. The cool Atlantic breeze carried the scent of salt water, while the rhythmic sound of waves rolled onto the beach below. Long shadows stretched across the boardwalk as the rising sun painted the sky in shades of gold, pink, and blue. Storefronts and arcades were still quiet, their signs waiting for another busy day. Steve smiled as he rode, feeling the fresh air against his face and hearing only the hum of his tires on the boards. For one peaceful hour, Ocean City seemed made just for him. He was, for a moment, King of the Boardwalk.
