Bowie Train Station (03-04)

Historical narrative
The Bowie Train Station, opened in 1872, stands as a monument to the rail era that reshaped Maryland. Named after Governor Oden Bowie, the station helped transform the rural settlement of Huntington City into a bustling commercial hub for travelers. It originally served as a critical junction for the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad, where the line divided between Washington, D.C., and the Pope's Creek Branch, with Mullikin Station in Mitchellville among its Southern Maryland stops, as depicted in another of Steve's collections. The preserved Bowie railroad complex stands today as an artifact of the 19th- and early-20th-century infrastructure that connected rural farmers and communities to expanding urban markets.
